The first Olympics started as short races. Later, longer races were made as well as javelin, discus throwing, boxing, wrestling and chariot races were added last. You were only allowed to compete in the Olympics if you were 18 and able to fight. The purpose of the Olympics was to honour the gods and to cause peace throughout Greece. If you were in Greece at the time of the Olympics, you were not allowed to wage war. The Olympics were held once every four years. The first Olympics were held in 776 B.C.E. The Olympics was a five day event. The competitors competed for an Olive leaf wreath from a sacred olive tree and for honour in their town or city.They also earned free meals and statues made in there name.Some city's said you didn't pay taxes for the rest of your life.the men in the Olympics competed naked so the women would not come because women were not aloud to go to the Olympics.
